Loan Officers and NASCAR, what a combination, right? What on earth can the two of them possibly have in common? When you really think about it, it makes perfect sense.

Let me explain; in the mortgage business, everything has a delayed reaction. In other words, when we send out letters and postcards, the calls don't always come in right away, right? Sometimes the phone calls don't happen until the third or fourth time we mail the postcards out. Then, even after we get the phone call from the potential borrower, things don't happen lickity-split, right? The underwriting, the processing, the appraisal, the title, all these things have to take place before we actually see any results. In other words, before a Loan Officer gets paid, right?

If you're not a fan of NASCAR, you don't know what goes on behind the scenes. The Drivers don't just get in a car and drive it in circles for a couple of hours every Sunday. There is a LOT of testing going on. Their "testing" is like our sending out postcards. The NASCAR teams test a while, tweak the cars, and then test again. With the mortgage folks, we send the postcards, wait a while, maybe change a few things, and then send them out again.

If you haven't figured it out yet, Loan Officers and NASCAR work with delayed gratification. The is a LOT of work that needs to be done before ANYONE sees a big payday.

Think of it this way, when February rolls around, are you finishing up the work you did in Dec and Jan? Sure you are. Same thing for NASCAR. In Feb they have the Daytona 500, which is the grand prize for all the work the teams did in Dec and Jan. Now do you get it?
